COVID-19 (Novel Coronavirus)

RE: COVID-19 (Novel Coronavirus)

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit continues to monitor the COVID-19 outbreak. The health and well-bring of our athletes, staff and families is our top priority.

As of today, the risk of infection in Simcoe Muskoka remains low. However, the WHO has declared COVID-19 a worldwide pandemic.

We want to remind everyone that the best ways to prevent the spread of COVID-19 are the same as preventing the cold and flu. It is important to reassure your children and family members about their personal safety and health while taking the following precautions:

  • ·Hand washing: Use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer or wash your hands with soap and water if your hands are visibly dirty for at least 20 seconds, especially after coughing or sneezing.
  • ·Cough/Sneeze Etiquette: Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve (NOT YOUR HAND) when coughing or sneezing.
  • ·Stay Home When Sick: Athletes should tell parents if they are not feeling well and together devise a plan to stay home from class.
  • ·Keep Clean: Keep hands away from face and mouth unless you have just washed your hands.
  • ·Stay Healthy: stay healthy by avoiding contact with sick people, eating healthy food, keeping active and getting enough sleep.

We want to assure all families, staff and athletes that our facility is cleaned with disinfectants daily including the gym areas. For the foreseeable future, common surfaces will be cleaned twice daily. Hand sanitizer stations are available throughout our facility. Participants are REQUIRED to wash their hands before and after entering the gym area.

We will be making an exception for water bottles at this time. Water bottles may be brought and kept in our change rooms of the main gym or lobby area of the FlipSide. Please note that the Change Rooms are NOT monitored by our staff. Water fountains

are cleaned and disinfected many times throughout the day however please use your own discretion when using them.

We encourage participants that have symptoms of the virus to stay home. Symptoms include:

  • ·Runny nose
  • ·Sore throat
  • ·Cough
  • ·Fever
  • ·Difficulty breathing

Symptoms may take up to 14 days to appear after exposure to COVID-19.

  • ·Coaches and staff will be wiping down all common surfaces between classes and ensuring that their hands are clean.
  • ·The equipment in the gym is washed with a disinfectant each day.
  • ·Lobbies of our facility are also washed with a disinfectant each day.
  • ·Common areas are washed twice daily with disinfectant.
